I take Mombasa more as like a "yay we got our shoegaze out now we're going back to what made us successful"

The first half of Mombasa is gorgeous though. I agree the second half doesn't quite fit.

I think it works for it being the last song and all. Great album overall, I thought it was going to be meh going into it, but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise.

This album ended up being a really polarizing one as far as ratings go, but with 84 pages of discussion I've seen mostly positivity.

People will hate just bc its Deafheaven regardless of what they do

honestly, the only real song that I don't "dig" is Neptune Raining Diamonds and that's only 'cause it sort of bleeds out from GMOC, other than that this is an absolutely great shoegaze album.

Neptune is kinda pointless yeah. Really trippy interlude, but they could have replaced it with a more up tempo gaze banger. That transition into Lament For Wasps is amazing tho keep that.

Yeah Neptune could've been shorter, but it's a perfect bridge between Color and Wasps, the latter of which is an underrated track I think. The flow of the whole album is pretty much perfect.

Nice Talons :] I wouldn't say its perfect but its such a great stylistic change for them. Not forced or awkward at all, just sounds like a natural progression for them.

So everyone seemed to be erect over mombasa but it's just what deafheaven did on every one of their other albums, but worse. Is this album so bland that people have forgotten than?

Lowered it as every time I put this on I end up stopping to listen to one of their older albums

i actually like this better now than i did when it first dropped

first off, the drumming is top notch and i ofc like the gutar work quite a bit, but when i think of what makes me not like this as much as i want it has to be theres too little screaming on this. Kinda wish they had a full on shoegaze A side and a full on blackgaze B side

Everytime i listen to Great Mass of Color and he screams just a little bit on the end i feel cheated because i wish it was way more of that even tho the song is still great

Great Mass of colour is what made me pre-order it.

I listened to it once and was underwhelmed.

I tried to cancel my pre-order and can't

Now I've paid for a record I don't want

And because the UK left the EU, I'm going to have to pay extra import duties when it arrives.

I'm going to have to pay more to receive an album I don't want
