band lost all steam and goodwill (besides from the most vocal fans) by following up their masterpiece by:

1) Bullying their lead guitars into quitting the band

2) Waiting 365 days to release a shitty drone counterpart to ILIIAITE

3) Waiting another 4 years after that to release: literally nothing

gratz loathe ya played yourself

the contortionist had a catalog and an arc already though, even if it wasnt a giant one. this would be like if the contortionist took half a decade to follow up exoplanet

True at least The Contortionist existed long enough to go through a few evolutions and their silence isn't jarring

It's a *bit* jarring still w/ Contortionist considering they literally played 2 completed tracks from a new album for VIPs on their tour like 2 or 3 years ago now and they haven't bothered posting any kind of status update anywhere on any kind of social media.

Don't even mind when it takes bands a bit of time between albums but the fully off the grid radio silence when it's so easy to pick up a phone and make a lil update is always weird/frustrating.

i wouldnt really say its off the grid entirely since we've heard things here and there from a handful of members about life updates and the like, the last i heard about it was that it was much less far along than i had thought lol so i guess part of it is it's just taking a while. i get ya tho

Yeah so I heard the rumors of life milestones, deaths in families, etc etc, and that totally makes sense.

The infuriating part is their unwillingness to put out official updates. In fact, I almost enjoy spreading the news that they are dead band/broken up, because that's all we can assume until they post...anything. Minimal effort stuff.

Last I checked, The Contortionist FB page would only post when they wanted to sell a new repress/album variant/merch, but they can't be bothered to make an official post and say "Hey guys sorry for the silence, we're doing X, Y, and Z, and hope to have a single out in ____"

Until then, I will maliciously speculate, because it's almost like the band wants to keep us in the dark.

Anyway, not like it matters in the end: in the heat of COVID-19, Robby Baca was liking and sharing and following a LOT of questionable things on Twitter. Liking anti-vax comments, liking anti-transgender comments, liking Jordan Peterson posts, liking posts from my province's batshit crazy right-wing Premier. I think after I logged those for a few hours, I officially didn't give a shit about the band anymore as long as Tinfoil Hat Robby is in it.

You guys literally care so much about other people political opinions, it's crazy. But besides that, The Contortionist really had such a good thing going, it's such a shame

yeah turns out when people say that friends, family, you know, loved ones in general are inhuman, mentally ill, and groomers, some people don’t take kindly to it.

What a weird thing to care about right, it’s crazy
