Only 8 songs in the set list on the tour. Which makes sense I guess

Even if they only wanted to do a pure prog rock concert since that’s their sound now, it’d alternatively be great to hear a set list like Coil, Harvest, Haxprocess, To Bid You Farewell, Will o the Wisp, Lovelorn Crime, Face of Melinda, Hours of Wealth, Windowpane, Heart in Hand, A Fair Judgment, Eternal Rains, Burden, Closure, Folklore, Benighted, and Epilogue.

I wish that didn’t mean they just abandon that sound. I don’t even really like vocals like that, it’s all about the amazing prog metal soundscapes that only they can do, from albums like SL, BWP, and GR.

When i saw them they didnt even play anything off still life, or MAYH. They only played Leper, Harlequin forest, lotus eater and deliverance for death metal stuff.

Agree with talons though if they want to play full prog rock sets they have some great stuff from earlier in their career. Id love to hear Credence live. Tbh they could even re work some of the older tracks to just clean singing with a hint of grit they showed on dignity if the growls are too hard on Mikael.Like that record store acoustic show they did thats on youtube.
Tbh i want to hear and feel that Opeth magic again, that atmosphere their old tracks had. I dont really care if Mikael doesn't/cant growl on new records but give me back that feeling like their old material had, that oozed through their old stuff

Don't be sad it's over, be glad that it happened 😻

Yup. This still has something that PC and Sorceress lacked. Don't know what it is exactly, but there's more magic here than on those two. Heritage is still on top, but this is a definite second.
That is conclusion number 1 for post-Watershed-revisit-day.
Svekets Prins (Dignity) and Hjärtat vet vad handen gör (Heart in Hand) are both very nice and brimming with energy.

Totally agreed, you can just hear how much more inspired and full of ideas they were on this one. Some of my gripes from PC and Sorceress still remain, but I really like this one.

Absolutely.
That ending to Hjärtat vet vad handen gör/Heart in Hand 😍 And that freak out midsection! Lovely tune.
Doesn't let go either, De närmast sörjande (Next of Kin) is superb as well.

Next of Kin and Moon Above, Sun Below are their only 2010s songs where I hear a bit of their classic sound in a section or two.

Yeah absolutely. There are very GR/BWP-ish moments to be found in those.
Those super colourful vocalisations in the ending of Next of Kin are fantastic. Really enjoying this play through so far.
Let's see what Minnets yta (Lovelorn Crime) will bring. One of my faves from before.

Minnets yta/Lovelorn Crime is still perfect, so theatrical and truly something they haven't ever done before (much like Banemannen/The Garroter). Charlatan is nice too.
No duds so far and it feels like they entirely shook of that PC flavour, whereas Sorceress still was very much a continuation of that album.

Ingen sanning är allas (Universal Truth) is also so theatrical. This has way more to say than PC/Sorceress, feels more urgent and energetic all the way through.
That use of colourful melodies comes back again during Kontinuerlig drift (Continuum). Allting tar slut (All Things Will Pass) has great build and very nice guitars.
After revisiting, this is in the 4.2/4.3 region I think. It really is very good.

Sorceress seemed more disjointed and unpredictable than PC to me, which is probably their most straightforward and simplistic from a songwriting perspective. Even though Eternal Rains and River are both quite adventurous songs.
Lovelorn Crime is wonderful yea. Can’t get into Charlatan at all, sounds like cheesy dad rock trying to sound like Meshuggah. And The Garrator I only really like the intro and outro.

"sounds like cheesy dad rock trying to sound like Meshuggah" haha! Nice.
Feel you on the Sorceress vs PC disjointed vs straightforward comparison. Still think they do resemble each other strongly though. At least when hearing them back to back just now, there were very clear similarities.
A 4.5 feels like too much for this one, but it's close!

Yeah PC and Sorceress do have more similarities than differences. I love Continuum and Universal Truth. All Things Will Pass is decent. If this album didn’t have Charlatan or most of The Garroter, and Mikael quit the oversinging he’s been doing since PC, this’d probably be close to a 4.5 for me.

>Next of Kin and Moon Above, Sun Below are their only 2010s songs where I hear a bit of their classic sound in a section or two.
Famine and I Feel The Dark are also two songs that have that broodiness, and capture the distinct sound of past records. Count in the second part of Folklore as well, with the amazing piano break and the bass solo, and then the burst of all instruments... That's some good stuff.

Why does his voice have to follow the keyboard as it ascends and descends and ascends once again all the time? I feel like every vocal line on these "non-death growl" albums is basically him ripping up and down a scale.

This album has some great layering, but indeed sometimes the melodies follow each other a bit lazily. My biggest disappointment on here is the solo on Lovelorn Crime. It could have been a career highlight for Opeth and Fredrik, but it's just a solo
