they are great and worth the read (Storm Of Swords is fucking insane) but you're reading a story that most likely will never end because the author is a fat lazy douche bag. If you want some awesome dark fantasy that actually ends and wraps things up, check Joe Abercrombie, Glen Cook, Mark Lawrence, Brandon Sanderson etc

i wouldn't put brando sando in that category - he's more akin to MCU than grimdark - but yeah as good as the books are it's just never going to be finished. even if he finishes winds of winter there's still another book he has to write. at best the hope is another author finishes the series a la brando sando & WoT



def +1 the other recs tho and also throw steven erikson in there. and if you like red rising sun eater would be a similar rec. more epic fantasy in a sci-fi backdrop and not as fast paced but much more ambitious

i don't have as much time to read as i'd like so i'm not super ~well-versed~ but my general series tier list, left to right, would look something like



S: malazan, sun eater



A: dune (first book only), first law, red rising, ASOIAF, the black company



B: stormlight, remembrance of earth's past, hyperion, gentlemen bastards



C: mistborn, green bone saga



i can't really decide on a spot for wheel of time because it's so up and down. book 4 and the last four books are probably middle A tier, books 8-9 are D tier, book 10 F tier, and the rest are like high C tier i guess.

These are cool names, gonna look into these and add to the list. I second or third the book list idea.
