"I think they might surpass EIF on a future album."
i now expect stagnation. theyve been way too consistent, i feel a blunder coming on.

i think they really need to make some changes in their sound next time or i might be bored. then again, i thought that after Vermis came out too. but as youre saying, theyre kind of in the spotlight right now, they might stick with the same sound to avoid alienating their fanbase.

I wonder if people said the same thing about bands like death or neurosis

"i said this awhile back, but if you listen to this on the right speakers/headphones, the snare doesnt have that effect."
it has that effect tho

The band seem aware enough of their critical reception. I'd say they would rather break up than hit creative stagnation.

they sure aren't in it for the money. they all have regular jobs, and according to their tour manager they could make money in a package tour but instead prefer to choose their own venues/support so they just break even.

they've been slowly changing every album, and I don't like the direction they're headed. right now they're almost entirely removed from their death metal roots. soon they'll just be another random dissonance-core band that doesn't understand what made EiF good

what made EiF good that their current direction lacks?
|
| |
the fact that they built dissonant atmosphere off of legit death metal riffs, and destroyers took this further by elongating legit death metal riffs and creating the greatest atmosphere ever heard on a death metal album and thus solidifying it as the greatest album ever
vermis and this drop almost all the legit death metal riffs and went straight into dissonant atmosphere by building dissonance off of dissonance, which sounds like big mess.
this is still good, better than vermis, but mostly for the fact that they added more warm and melodic tones to it, which is perfectly fine, but it's not why i loved ulcerate initially, and now i'm finding it much more difficult to connect

alright I'll buy that. I'm not as bearish on the new direction but I'm 100% on board with Destroyers as my favorite dm album. that atmosphere is just perfect.

final riff in cold becoming is incredible beyond words
seeing it live is a spiritual experience
|

i need to jam destroyers again. it is the ulcerate record i have spent the least amount of time with for some reason
|
| |
possibly same
|

it's the best one dudes
|

It's my favorite Ulcerate as well. Nailed the atmosphere on it.

just gave it a full listen and damn why didn't i give it more time. floored. that being said, i followed it up with some browsing through shrines, and i wouldn't say the record is lacking in meaty death metal riffs. shrines sounds more like EiF than any of their other records imo. but yea, atmosphere on tdoa is just sublime

Can't go wrong with any of them.

basically. just spun Of Fracture and Failure last night, was considerably stronger than i initially remembered. all riffs.

Nah, this album doesn't have a single death metal riff on it. The only thing that's still death metal about this is the vocals. Otherwise they've completely detached themselves from death metal.
This sound the least like EiF to me, because they've naturally been heading away from that sound ever since.
