Lots of nu metal bands ripped off Rage's sound, but that's not their fault. I guess you could call them proto nu metal, but they're so much better than any nu metal band, and this is coming from someone that occasionally defends the genre.

Yeah, I guess that's fine, but most rap metal falls under the nu metal umbrella. As long as we accept that this is an exception to that rule. I think they're more funk metal with a vocalist that raps, but this is why people shouldn't worry so much about genres.
