But again, I actually really like this. My attempts at Paysage have not gone as well, I will steer clear until I develop a protective layer of frost in my inner ear.

There is a difference between lo-fi production and straight up painful to listen to. There are plenty of BM albums I enjoy without any discomfort. If I've learned anything about black metal, it's that the genre is incredibly diverse and there is much to be found and enjoyed in all corners. To generalize my feeling of wanting greater clarity in such a technically impressive album to "the genre just isn't for you" is the kind of elitist bs that has been giving BM fans a bad name as long as I can remember.
Idk if I've ever disagreed with anything harder.

The opening riff on this has caught me off guard on a few occasions if i'm listening to something else beforehand. Abrasive.

agreed so hard, super memorable riffs and that brief acoustic break is amazing.

I honestly don't know how anyone can defend the production on this lol. The music is great, i think they're doing good stuff here, but it would have sounded better being recorded through a cell phone recorder and that's saying something. Saying the God awful production is part of its charm is pretentious as hell. Would you guys like blackwater park if it sounded like this? Or jane doe? Or any number of albums?

There's a difference between a recording being grainy and atmospheric and sounding like straight up dogshit. The production on bergtatt was gritty and raw but very listenable compared to this. I mean, those awesome riffs might as well be a wall of white noise because of how poorly produced this is

Only listened to one track but the productions seemed to be horrible. Still have to check it out

no i wouldn't like those albums with a production like this because imo it wouldn't suit them, but like it or not this kind of aesthetic is part of the charm for me and many others lol. I don't know what to tell you if its not your style, that's a totallly legitimate opinion to have, but personally I really dig the uber lo-fi sound, whether you think that's a pretentious stance on a black metal album or not.

You find recordings so bad they sound like tin cans being smashed together with every cool guitar passage completely blocked by white noise to be charming?
