as much as i love Fripp, Gilmour's had a huge influence on my guitar playing and i've always been a bigger floyd fan

Gilmour's style is just has so much emotion and finese, it really shines, he has his own distinct style that is very recognizable. Fripp's playing is really complex and interesting, his style has alot of discipline and isn't show-off-y at all. I really respect his playing because he mostly just chooses to compensate the music overall.

Gilmour is better at arrangements and really elevating a song to epic status, while Fripp has him beat in general shredding

"Fripp is far superior technically"

that depends on what you consider technical playing. gilmour's bending is perfect, which is an art in itself.

Gilmour solos just "get to you" more effectively than Fripp's imo. He just has more feel. Fripp is a wanker, and a highly skilled one at that.

I prefer Gilmour but Fripp rules hard.

This one is perfect. I love with burning passion dogs

Bottom line is they're perfect for their respective bands. Gilmour could never play 21st Century Schizoid Man with as much crazy technicality as Fripp and Fripp could never play Dogs with as much passion as Gilmour.

I like all of the Big 6, but I'd say this is my ranking for them:

Pink Floyd

King Crimson

Genesis

Yes

ELP

Jethro Tull

Rush isn't British dude, that's why they don't appear.

Those I mentioned are the Big 6 of British Prog (in my view, of course).

Plus, there's no point in comparing Rush to those guys, since Rush came later. I think Kansas is a

better candidate for that comparison.
