Finally got around to this since their discog was uploaded to Apple music. Shockingly exceeded the hype.

Necroticism and Symphonies are the superior Carcass records to me, but this is great too, like their third best

From their Wikipedia “ Carcass are regarded as pioneers of the goregrind genre.” Whelp. I’m more of a melodeath guy but we’ll see how it goes.

Necroticism is more of a mid based groove death metal, not much gore grind in there

This is a great record, but Necroticism is on "holy shit" levels of awesomeness, listen to the last track of that one and see what i mean

Idk why this is called the first melo-death record. Sounds nothing like syrupy gothenburg metal. Has more in common with Wolverine Blues than The Jester Race

"Idk why this is called the first melo-death record. Sounds nothing like syrupy gothenburg metal"

probably because melodeath isn't limited to gothenburg and this album is death metal that's melodic and therefore is melodic death metal. one of the first and an archetype of the genre.

as far as the full dynamic range thing, metal audiophiles in my collecting groups on social media all have high praise for those reissues. ive never done side by side comparisons or anything. personally i find the packaging way too shitty and bare bones to justify the often higher prices of these reissues (compared to finding cheaper original copies out in the wild) but i do own several of them
