"This Mortal Soil and Siberian Divide are two of their most mid songs"

Fixed it for you

Siberian Divide is fuckin awesome, and I miss them writing songs that feel like you're in the story. That chaotic blast of a chorus is like an avalanche. The haziness and swirling vocals, the distant keyboards and layered atmospheres...so much attention to detail and craft here that just didn't happen from Hunter through Emperor.

Agreed Sevengill, Hunter was where they started to lose me and Once More Round the Sun completely sealed that deal

Yeah I gave Hushed and Grim a very good go when it came out and I wasn't impressed. Maybe it's time to give it another try

It was all downhill after this album - though CTS was only a little downhill

I actually prefer CtS to this, but I feel like you can't go wrong with any of their first four albums

For me, this one lands in a slightly awkward place where it's not as sludgy as the first two albums, but also not as outwardly proggy as CtS. So it comes off as a slightly weaker and more one-dimensional version of both sounds, but that's not to say it doesn't still rule overall. It just happens to be my least fave of their early era

Yes!!!!!!! What a W take. This is what i've been saying some time ago on a Mastodon thread. This doesn't even begin to touch Leviathan and CtS
