Remember when Axe joined and people were like oh he’s just a blaster he’ll never replace Lopez only for him to absolutely nail the jazzy shit and be one of the best parts of the band’s post-2000s works

Just looked at the setlist from last night and it's pretty disappointing. Will they ever fucking retire demon of the fall? I mean goddamn. They play it every tour. At least do when or april ethereal sometimes. And as much as I like deliverance, could they just do like masters apprentice instead from time to time? For a band with such a massive catalogue, it's kinda lame that they play the same songs so often

Looks pretty similar to the Live at Red Rocks album. I still haven't managed to see them live yet and I'm sure they put on a great show, but their set lists are pretty underwhelming.
Never anything from Still Life, usually nothing except maybe Drapery from BWP, and only Demon of the Fall from MAYH. Then they make Cusp of Eternity and Sorceress, their two worst songs probably, live staples along with some decent ones like Deliverance and Devil's Orchard.
Could you imagine a set like Heir Apparent, Windowpane, Advent, April Ethereal, Benighted, Blackwater Park, Bleak, Serenity Painted Death, Ghost of Perdition, The Leper Affinity, Haxprocess, and maybe a new song or two? Would be mind-blowing and just around a 2 hours long concert.

The more time passes the happier I am that the one time I've seen Opeth live was this:

That set list is an improvement for sure. And any pre-Watershed show has to have a great set list I would think.
I would pay good money to see a set list like this, with a couple of my favs from Ghost Reveries: https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/opeth/2001/the-underworld-london-england-bd4e1b2.html

Axenrot's drumming was the only redeeming part of the post-Watershed albums honestly.

That's as perfect of a setlist as I could imagine. My perfect opeth setlist would, of course, be a little different... but as far as the band making their own set... that's damn near all I could ask for

I just really wish they would retire demon of the fall. That's like baby's 1st opeth song

Weren't they preparing an Evolution(?) tour with a setlist decided by votes?

Every time I see the Monolake I become so happy Sabrutin 💕
It was one of the best aspects of the last four albums for sure beefshoes. Without question.

hehe I discovered it in a list of yours while I was trying to dig deeper into electronic music. I didn't expect to dig it so much as an "entry" point so I'm fond of it. Plus the artwork is total cult classic material

'Just looked at the setlist from last night and it's pretty disappointing. Will they ever fucking retire demon of the fall?'
Ahem, I'm not that old... yet!
Seriously though, you're not wrong. Mix it up a little lads, you have other pre-BWP material and DotF is the only one that ever seems to get a look in. Although I can respect a band's decision to leave much of their (older) back catalogue behind in instances where they're fed up with playing it/feel it's in the past and want to show-off the 'now' etc. if they're going to play a single song, then why always pick the same damn one?

Nice! Didn't know that actually! A lovely record, even nicer that it worked as a way in since it's pretty dense indeed.
And I think picking Demon makes sense (since he's a great person... OH NO wait we're not talking about the Sput-user) since it is a relatively short tune. It might be pretty problematic for them to select pre-BWP-stuff since all of it is so long. That and the fact that it's a crowd pleaser still makes it difficult to ignore I think.

I think my ideal setlist would be as follows:
The Leper Affinity
When
The Amen Corner
Benighted
The Baying of the Hounds
Godhead's Lament
Hours of Wealth
In Mist She Was Standing
Advent
Deliverance
Hope Leaves
Heir Apparent
Folklore
Eternal Rains Will Come
Will O' the Wisp
Strange Brew
Lovelorn Crime
Heart in Hand
To Bid You Farewell
The concert would be long as hell, but it covers every era and includes quite a few tracks that aren't played nearly enough (along with some staples of course)

Oh shucks, you're not so bad yr'self! I agree with your general point about the length though, guess it would problematic including Black Rose Immortal!
Hmm, that list is looking good, interesting concept that I may spend some time thinking about as it's not QUITE the same as simply saying 'fave songs'.

"I may spend some time thinking about as it's not QUITE the same as simply saying 'fave songs'."
Yeah, that was one of the main things I considered, which is why I made every 3rd or 4th song a ballad and paid attention to certain track placements for the set in general. For instance, Leper Affinity's always been an incredible opener so that was a no-brainer for me. And the reasoning for To Bid You Farewell at the end seems pretty obvious
Essentially though, I was structuring it as if it were the sequencing for an actual Opeth album
