Precisely. It's a good release but it isn't special by CoL standards because they have vastly superior material in their catalogue. I still have it at a 4.

Wow! It's been awhile since I listened to these guys. I wasn't a huge fan of Mariner but I was hooked from beginning to end when listening to this. It might be their best record.

you said you'd listened to the two before this + debut
|

The one you're referring to is a collab, I meant their main albums. However, upon looking it up, I remembered the album cover, and saw in the thread that I called it horrendously boring lmao. Apparently when I heard it back in 2016 it bored me so much that I forgot it existed

I've listened to all their albums but I literally haven't listened to them since that one time I listened to Mariner when it was released in 2016. I didn't leave an impression at all and so I never went back to it. But this has made me want to revisit that album plus all of their other works. Somewhere Along The Highway was always my fav.

"Only heard the two before this and their self titled and thought all 3 were meh"
Fair shit tbh, Eternal Kingdom and their s/t are their worst and most homogenous, and while Vertikal is dec and relatively varied it doesn't come close to their two classics

Eternal Kingdom was an album which grew on me a lot, to the point where it was almost like discovering a new album when I went back to it years later. At the time, it was coming on the back of what I’d rate as two classics, so it was difficult to get past the weight of expectations. Vertikal clicked with me almost instantly.
