Have been extremely underwhelmed by the pre-release material. Hope the songs sound better in the context of the full album, so far they've seemed pretty boring.

Leaks of this thing are surprisingly great quality. Theres a FLAC version floating around that sounds as good as something youll hear this Friday.
So far seems like the singles were some of the weakest content on the album. Opener and Closer are mind blowing

That gives me some hope. I was always going to at least give this a shot, so I'm hoping I agree with your assessment about the opener and closer.

I find that underwhelming singles are almost always better in context of the full thing. Like 95% of the time

Aside from Posthumous Forgiveness, I enjoyed the singles. Whatever influences he pulled from the 80s to make those worked out well.

I like all of the singles but It Might Be Time is by far the weakest.
Wish Patience was on the album.

thought It Might Be Time was the second best behind Patience. sounds like a Doobie Brothers track with 2010s swagger.

On my first listen of Currents, loving it so far. Yes please, grooves.

was slightly underwhelmed by each of the singles, but on the other hand not a single one of them is poorly constructed, and have room to grow. Hoping for a DAMN by kendrick situation where I was ? on the singles, but the album itself just has a super consistent groove.

yea the songs don't have that OOMPH to their kick
but I'd argue that most if not all of TI's stuff lacks that
|

they aren't super inspired
Lonerism/Innerspeaker era TI was just dripping in great ideas tho.

Ok stop it with the "better than currents" hype ...
Patience is a solid 8.5/10 song, I still like it slightly better than Borderline, production was the first thing that really blew me away. Sad it won't be in the album
Borderline is prob right behind it for me 8-8.25/10 I honestly love that it's getting all the hype. A little simplistic for my tastes at first but it def has lots of staying power.
It Might Be Time is prob the weakest one, 7/10 I think although I'm hesitant to even say it's the worst. Song is definitely the most blended in past influences (it might be time to face it, you're not as cool as you used to be) and like it all works as a song just not my absolute fav. Plus that WEEEEEooooooEEEEEEoooo synth is a bit too funny
Posthumous Forgiveness might be a 10/10 song maybe 9.5/10 idk how it could be called boring...this song has everything
..3 parts, lively synths and blasting bass, amazing melodies by the end, and to top it all off the amount of emotional weight put into the lyrics about his late dad... idk too much to unpack with this, seems the opposite of boring to me
Lost in Yesterday is the one that might be growing on me the most. At first I thought it'd be a 7ish poppy single but the more I unpack it and after watching the music video this song is one that keeps giving, holding off overplaying it but this might be up there with borderline (8 or 8.5/10)

Patience not being on the album is the dumbest shit he ever did
