Joan was quizzical, studied pataphysical science in the home. Maxwell Edison, majoring in medicine, calls her on the phone... "Can I take you out to the pictures Jo-oh-oh-oooaaan?"

John is my favorite Beatle, well for his music... not for who he was as a person.

"well for his music... not for who he was as a person."
He was a relatively admirable person, at least significantly more than his bandmembers wallowing in luxury forever.

@ArsMoriendi yes, the domestic violence issue is unforgiveable, hence my use of "relatively"...
Still, not many internationally known music stars have genuinely used their fame to support political and social issues without any underlying hypocrisy, as Lennon has. Of course, as far as activism goes, there is a ton of more significant figures than Lennon, whom were perhaps eclipsed by Lennon being the icon he is. But being able to make use of one's fame intelligently is a rather rare trait.
But I believe an artist and his work are entirely dissociable

I dunno dude, John lennon's activism has always felt like posturing to me. It was very in your face, like "look how cool I am I'm such an activist I'm supporting all these good things look at me look at me"
Like I stand by the belief of if you're gonna do good, hide it. "Let not thy right hand know what thy left is doing"

This is why I said "John is my favorite Beatle, well for his music... not for who he was as a person."

"Like I stand by the belief of if you're gonna do good, hide it."
Lennon probably garnered some additional prestige through activism, but considering his status, could he really have "done good and hidden it"? And his status as a rockstar certainly did help publicise the political and social issues he was commenting on.
We have to be very critical of celebrities' hypocritical "philanthropy", of course, but regarding Lennon it always seemed to me that he was actually dedicated to social action. There was probably this part of "look how cool I am", but at least he was able to be famous without being a terrible parasite.
