leak is legit. found the record pretty meh on first listen, the singles revealed all the surprises of the new sound. that made the playthrough uneventful

I'm disappointed how different the studio version is from the live stream they did. The studio album sounds so disjointed and abstracted, like 'I wish this amateur electronica album would stop interrupting this decent Bon Iver album'

After letting the new album digest enough I have to say that it's a huge let down, especially after a five year wait. It's not that I don't like the new direction it's just that the overall quality of the music is just very ok compared to the first two albums. There's no wow moments or standout tracks. "Heavenly Father" was better than anything on it.

It's sort of not cool to expect an artist to regress into some previous phase in their career, but I feel like all of his releases under this project will disappoint me at least a bit in comparison to For Emma. Which is perhaps a fault of mine, but I just want at least another EP like Blood Bank or something more stripped back. That said, new album's excellent, and IMO more consistent than this - can't wait to hear it in decent quality when it's officially released.
