From what I understand, they'll be playing stuff from every era. Personally, I'm fine with them playing Mangini stuff as long as it's not from The Astonishing

I haven't decided yet if I'm going to see them for the 5th time. I'll see that in time.

yepp bought my ticket too
i'd prefer if they didn't play any mangini stuff just cause i wanna hear portnoy play portnoy's songs but it seems they most likely will yeah. portnoy seems very open to it at the very least. as long as they don't play any astonishing bullshit i'm good [2] as i generally like the rest of the mangini stuff

Hearing Portnoy play the bland ass parts on The Astonishing will be hilarious

Portnoy is creating the setlist. It would be pretty harsh and egotistical if he didn't include any Mangini era tunes. Guaranteed to have at least 2 of them in there.

Agreed. I think he will do that.

Makes sense to play some Mangini stuff, after all, he played on some great songs. There's just a lot to be desired from the drumming on The Astonishing haha

lmao just like old times already. when mike was in the band they changed the setlist every single night. after he left they played the same setlist for the entire tour. don't think they'll be switching back though idk how they ever got away with that in the first place.
would love to see them play "the best of times" live... DT has still never performed that song. also never performed "the shattered fortress" until after portnoy left weirdly. gotta think we'll be seeing at least one of those if portnoy is doing the setlist

I bet you will get The Best of Times eventually. Makes sense that they never played it considering its about the death of Portnoy's father and he left the band shortly thereafter.

one thing i don't want to see which i've seen a lot of fans hope for is the full 12 step suite. i like/love all those songs but the motifs repeat way too much for that to be worth taking up like an hour of the set

People sometimes forget how legendary LaBrie's performance on this is (and also Awake). There's something so unique and powerful about his voice in general (though that has definitely decreased through the years) but here it's just on another level.

His performance is definitely better here than on subsequent releases, for sure.

Awake was LaBrie's best DT album vocally. It's the only album that perfectly showcased both his range and grit.

I love Awake but I think he overdoes the gritty thing a little.
