Relistened to isis discog over the last few days for the 10 millionth time. Panopticon is my lease fave. Oceanic has the crunch and riffs and groundbreakingness, ITAOT has that drumming... (i just came all over the cubicle i am currently taking a shit in, even tho the drum production is overblown here) wavering radiant fixes the drum overblownness and they tighten the sound they were onto with ITAOT and is probs their best. Panopticon I just dont reckon touches the other 3

only thing sputnik is coded to prevent you from doing is rating anything with a 4.3 or higher average below 2.0

Yeah celestial is obv cool evil, its a repetitive kinghit of riffs to the face. But for me it ranks last of their lps and i didnt bother including it as the submit button on my phone fell out of view with the size of my previous comment. It should be noted that about 4 years ago i would have rated panopt above WR and ITAOT if asked. Preferences change and will result in hearing different things in songs.

"To me, Panopticon is Isis at their peak. Not to us, the listener, but for them in the studio and songwriting. Oceanic to me is their breakthrough on a whim and didn't realize the reception it would gain at the time of the recording. Panopticon, on the other hand, they had some wings in the studio and wanted to pull all the stops."
Well, I'll leave this quote from Aaron Turner himself during an interview for the album's 10th anniversary in 2014.... "Personally, ‘Panopticon’ was the last Isis record that I felt fully invested in – or that I felt that we, as a band, were as unified as we could be, given we’re five individuals."

'If the riff is good, why ruin it with a bad bridge or sloppy chord progressions?'
Except it's entirely possible to avoid unduly repeating riffs & still come up with cohesive progressions. I don't actually have an opinion on the Isis album in question, so it's not a criticism of that album, parts of WtSV do overstay their welcome though.

Yeah this is definetly better than Celestial, though songs like C.F.T. pretty much indicated where they were going. I like the incorporation of the female vocals, although i'm usually reluctant when it comes to female vocals in rock music

This will grow on you so much man. And yea the few times they appear on the record are the times where I can’t imagine them not being there.
