I mean I'm not a huge fan of this album either but if you don't understand the cruciality of lo-fi production value in bm then the genre just isn't for you

Yeah I honestly don't even know why they felt the need to remaster this. I'll never jam it either way, but like the production is what makes this so special.

There is a difference between lo-fi production and straight up painful to listen to. There are plenty of BM albums I enjoy without any discomfort. If I've learned anything about black metal, it's that the genre is incredibly diverse and there is much to be found and enjoyed in all corners. To generalize my feeling of wanting greater clarity in such a technically impressive album to "the genre just isn't for you" is the kind of elitist bs that has been giving BM fans a bad name as long as I can remember.

That’s not in any way elitist, and there are many black metal albums that are on this level of piercing qualities like this. It’s like saying deathgrind isn’t for you if you don’t like squeals

It may be elitist but it's not bs.

But don't ignore the point about the diversity of the genre as a whole. If I have trouble getting into some of the more raw/abrasive BM albums, does that mean I have no right to go near any of the atmospheric/folk/epic/progressive/experimental BM albums?

Or is this where I'm told the only trve black metal will actually succeed in giving you a frontal lobotomy and stigmata?

Definitely. Black metal is a paint brush, not a colour.

No, you just shouldn't go near stuff like this. I think when BM was said, it was mostly focused on more traditional sounding, raw style rather than the experimental shit after. If you like atmospheric BM or whatever go crazy
