I feel like my lukewarm ness on tracks 6-8 is partially attributed to tracks 9-11 being three of my favorite Underoath songs hands down

i adore tracks 6-8 tbh
just being objective they are probably ever so slightly a step down
Spencer screaming "I HEAR THE WORDS YOU SAY, I STILL FEEL NOTHING" on "coming down" is one of my favorite moments from him period

something kinda irks me about the chord progression in the chorus tho like the melody is so good but had they structured the chords differently to end on a 4th instead of a 3rd it could've sounded a lot cooler

“this album toned down the riffs a bit compared to DTGL, but I feel like this is heavier overall just in a different way”
You know I actually don’t agree with this. Both albums have many quality riffs, but DTGL is peppered with a lot of eighth-note passages that are devoid of hardcore riffage. The tracks that feature the most amounts of heavy riffs are In Regards to Myself, Returning Empty Handed, and Everyone Looks so Good from Here. LITSOS replaces those eight-note segments with more experimental and ambient passages, but still has heavy riffs on Breathing In, The Only Survivor, Coming Down and Desperate Times.
I’m gonna jam both albums tomorrow to make sure I’m not just bullshitting but this was my first thought

I wish my music education went beyond playing mallet percussion in my high school marching band so I could actually participate in the musical part of the discussion instead of just saying stuff like "this shit goes in".

Honestly dude marching percussion is the extent of my music education as well. I did a bit of everything though, from pit to marching

I sang opera for a good chunk of my life, played piano, and still play guitar
Always wanted to learn how to play drums but never did

I was strictly pit, thank the God. I played vibraphone/marimba and I was a beast.
Tried taking guitar lessons once and nope'd out of that one. I don't have that kind of patience.

Yea just jammed this again, still really good. Spencer's screams are vicious, Aaron's cleans are a lot more mature, the guitars RIFF and bring the desolate atmosphere, and the drumming goes absolutely wild. Like bro, shit is so good

“I was strictly pit, thank the God. I played vibraphone/marimba and I was a beast.”
hell yea pit represent, tho I play bass in it and my part is basically a more complicated hybrid of the marimba vibe and xylophone parts just like 2 octaves down
