first time i listened to cocubine i thought it was catchy but too short, this was before I realized short = good when it comes to da corez

this album is no more grating than other metallic hardcore releases that preceded it. JD is catchy and easy to cruise through after you've heard it a few times. some people slap a low rating on it seemingly for the sole purpose of distancing themselves from the fanbase, but it's not a bad album at all. not a classic, but enjoyable nonetheless.

I disagree that it’s not a classic, its status and influence in the hardcore community pretty much makes it one regardless of how much you like it.
I agree that it shouldn’t be such a hard task to get into it unless you have no familiarity with hardcore or any form of extreme music

It's an album which transcended the audience that initially received it and is still well-liked by younger people hearing it for the first time. I didn't know it had acquired such a huge following until circa the album's 10th anniversary when I began poking around on music sites like Sputnik. the local hardcore clique I grew up around was aware of converge of course, and JD was liked but not immortalized. Given the larger scope of the community, I concede you have a valid point : )

I'm still honestly unsure about the whole album. Just because i don't like it doesn't mean it's not a great album.

Sorry dude, that doesn't make sense. You like what you like, forget the reputation or influence of said album, forget everything surrounding it. This is a 5/5 for me, but that's simply based on how much I enjoy listening to it.
I listened to Pet Sounds properly for the first time a few weeks back & I didn't enjoy it, just because it has classic status doesn't make it an automatic masterpiece to every individual who hears it.
The beauty of music as an art form (which it is) is that we all hear different things & interpret them on an individual basis, opinions will vary & that's fine. Music cannot & will not ever be objective, it's an impossibility.

^^ I still haven't sat down and listened to this album all the way through yet. From what I have heard, it probably won't be a classic from me.
I also find it oddly satisfying that Demon has 6660 comments
