jester, here's my idea of metalcore.

Verse: muscular testosterone dude chugs over a pseudo-melodeath track.

Refrain: melodic singing, acute voice, romantic and sad

Breakdown: sparsely arranged, scene kids headbang

I can't see any of these in Converge though.

Metalcore is certainly a dirty term and it's because bands like that ^ exist. Same thing happened with screamo. Everyone thinks of shitty mtv post-hardcore bands or they just apply it to anything with harsh vocals.

Whoa thank you, I only listened to Knut in that list (a friend of a former friend of mine plays/played in that band). I'll try Botch, everyone's raving about them.

Yea man and if you’re ever feeling brave, you can check this awesome list. Probably the best metalcore list on the site

Jane Doe is a decent effort, but ultimately not something that would entice a front-to-back listen without boredom setting in

I’m able to sympathize with getting tired out/even bored on listening thru this. No more is that how I feel, ofc, but I get it

There's a difference between the record being exhausting and the record being boring though. I fully understand someone having trouble listening to this in one sitting, but to call it boring is absurd.
