yeah i get you. death metal isn't my favourite by any stretch but to me this album strikes a really great balance between being very accessible but also engaging throughout. i may very well calm down on it as time passes but right now i'm having a blast so i don't care lol.

well that's dumb, CC certainly have talent and you could say they're the template, but there are so many generic DM bands that play everything by the books they wrote and don't bother to do anything more with the sound that it kinda makes me wish CC evolved in a way somewhat similar to, say, later Death, not just ride off their coattails but explore beyond the basics

Nah Venin, CC never needed to do any of that. They've been making straightforward dm bangers for over 30 years. One of the best and most consistent dm bands ever.

I haven't read the whole thread but im not *exactly* sure how I feel about gatekeeping



I mean a growing dm scene is not inherently a bad thing....but what is kinda disconcerting (read: bad) to me is people who don't even dig dm, don't jam dm regularly, then declare albums like this dm aoty etc without having heard many of the actual quality dm albums. And when those people have an actual platform for spreading that misinformation (in a sense), it just gets exponentially worse



This is not a bad album by any means, but it wasn't even probably top 60 or 70 dm of 2024 imo
