Yeah, this is my favorite Opeth. Everything they do here is done better that on any of their other albums, imo. Still mostly solid through Watershed.

It’s interesting how some people see the genius in this & others think it lacks cohesion & BWP is their peak.

Honestly as much as I enjoy BWP this makes that album look dull in comparison, this is very ambitious but the more I listen the more I believe they pulled it off, with flying colours. BRI is 20 minutes long but isn’t as repetitive as Drapery Falls is. The latter works in the context of the album but it’s a top 25 Opeth song for me, probably no more.

I basically think this through Ghost Reveries are peak Opeth so I don't fall into either category of thinking one is far superior to the other tbh

Orchid and Watershed meander a bit in writing imo

That’s fair. I prefer Orchid to BWP but that’s a stylistic thing, it just speaks to me more. Close though. Watershed has its moments of inconsistency.

Orchid and Morningrise are the only two I still listen to fairly regularly all the way through, but I get the love for GR, BP, etc.

Deliverance however gets weaker by the day in a comparative sense. Every other ‘metal Opeth’ release destroys it.

Oh yeah Deliverance and Damnation are not my favorites but they're still really awesome and I would probably like them way more if Morningrise,MAYH,Still Life, Blackwater and Ghost Reveries didn't exist

Deliverance and Damnation are great but not as good as anything else from Morningrise to Ghost Reveries

"I prefer Heritage to Deliverance now as well."

That's some crazy shit, but then again I really don't care for Heritage era Opeth

Sorry, Deliverence doesn’t get a free pass because it’s metal. Some of those riffs overstay their welcome.
