I might be the only one in the world but the opener is my favorite song off this. It just hits home too hard for it not to be

It’s grown on me but it’s still one of my least favorites here, I’m definitely in the minority though.

The dudes from Queer Eye wear this band's t-shirts really often. Like it appears in at least a dozen instances.

I'd say this is third best National right now, under TWFM and High Violet (which recently got the 5 bump). At the rate Boxer is growing it could soon surpass this as well.

This (and their other albums) are great to just chill to with a glass of wine or bourbon, vinyl record spinning.

Christ I can’t listen to “Dark Side of the Gym” without bawling my eyes out, that one’s made its way into my top 5 National songs.
Btw no album this year has come anywhere close to this.

No release has been as 'big' as this one was last year, there are a few albums I prefer this year but they're all by small fry- main reason this year has been a bit disappointing, no big release to get behind
The Metacritic critics list is godawful (except the inclusion of Low and a couple of others). The Poptimists won this year. Even Kacey Mus infiltrated Boney's defences by slippin' in a country finger :D

Yeah there were some other pretty big releases but none of them met/exceeded expectations like this did. Then again these guys are the best in the game so that shouldn’t be surprising.
And you know I’ve been a fan of Kacey Musgraves for years, right? Her album was one of my more anticipated of the year, I even added it to the database. :-/

I'm just f'ckin with you
I don't even hate that album -it's a 2-2.5 for me, I'd have it on and it would be alright, in no way annoying.
The Janelle Monae which currently sits on top of the critics rankings...we know what I think. The critical consensus is now officially dead to me, it was destined to happen.

I actually like that there's no Huge Album that everyone is rallying around this year. We have niche pockets with great stuff in different genres.

There's a lot of 'great stuff' this year true - my top 100 is bloody tight, everything coming in at very solid 3.5s at the least...just a lack of that 'upper level' really memorable best of the best type stuff. Bit lacking in 4.5+ ratings all told, I've had to be a bit generous up there to keep the year ticking along - usually I bump down a few, could only drop the Yves Tumor down this time otherwise it'd be too bald.
I mean Eleanor Friedberger will make my top 10 so something must be up right at the top of the deck
