Super cool! I'm no drummer but that was really insightful.

Thanks, Dom. Love stuff like that.
"There’s one rhythm that Lopez was fond of using that I’d like to focus on in particular; a 6/8 (a time signature comprised of two “three-counts”) Afro-Cuban groove called bembe.
As far as progressive metal bands go, Opeth’s music is uniquely well-suited to incorporate bembe. Mikael Åkerfeldt uses a lot of 6/8 in his writing, usually to give his music a lilting, folksy feeling."
Definitely gonna mention this at the next family dinner.

The clean break in Baying with those lovely ghost notes from Lopez and those loose as hell fills.
11/10 moment.

Lopez was amazing.
I prefer Axe though, his performance on Heritage is incredible.

Omg yes. Heritage-Axe all the way.

I prefer Lopez' style by far to Axe's. Axe might be superior in terms of technical playing but man, Lopez' feeling – especially on here – is just unbeatable for me.

IDK man Axe was disgusting on Watershed. Porcelain Heart for proof.

La banda oriental y no me estoy refiriendo a los Chinos jajajaa
|

En realidad "banda oriental" se refiere a los Uruguayos porque estan del oriente de America del Sur.

I probably agree with those things

So I have been thinking, and: can someone please explain the adoration for Harlequin Forest?
|

Opeth wrote it

Oh and it’s from the pre-prog days that’s also an important factor

1) one of their best choruses in any song with "a trail of sickness"
2) one of their tightest heavy bits (THERE FALLS ANOTHER, VAPOUR HANDS RELEASED THE BLADE)
3) generally dope lyrics with a creepy vibe that compliments the album
4) God tier transition into and out of the quiet "its all false pretension" bridge bit. and so on

You dare question the flawlessness of this album?
