You aren't allowed to sing about anything ever unless you were born and raised in hell, agreed.

Lorde has the potential to become the closest thing to this generation's Nirvana as we're going to get. That's not because she's the greatest musician around, but she has the combination of talent, exposure, and persona to make potential shockwaves in pop music, and my extension the music world in general. Of course, she might hit a sophomore slump or prove that this was just a one hit wonder, but I'm not concerned with her selling out. She had the chance to tour with Katy Perry and others BEFORE she became a superstar and declined. And now she's not just some teenager making indietronica music; she's got the backing to have about as much freedom as she so desires.

"It's a new art form showing people how little we care" is like this generation's "Here we are now, entertain us." It's a smirk calling for every other lazy pop musician around to pick up their game. With any fortune, her sophomore effort might very well become a bulldozer that does just that. Until then, this record does a damn fine job at being a great debut statement. ^

I like this record fine. However, I have trouble listening past "Glory and Gore."
