Album Rating: 3.5
I know their albums usually have SOME political content, but they are 3 for 3 with the singles they've put out.

I feel like I would be pissed if I was in the band and saw that Ed interview lol. So many contradicting things that are borderline negative.

I think it's pretty refreshing that he's so frank about the band dynamic, which honestly is as normal as it gets when you're in a band. Egos are a thing. Compromise is inevitable especially when it comes to musical directions. Looking back at interviews in the band's past, its pretty clear to me that Eddie and Riley are the two that push for the aggressive musical direction more often than not, whereas Dustin and Teppei would be happy writing indie/folk songs all day long, so there's bound to be push-pull there.

I would hope it's nothing he hasn't already talked about with the rest of the band regarding their future direction. It's not like he should have any less say than the other three. As a fan, I'm glad he's that open about his thoughts on it.

Lol I doubt it's something he hasn't said to them or made clear to them. They strike me as being pretty close-knit, I doubt they'd just swipe at each other in interviews to be petty.

some of the new album is really lame and some of it is really great, i'm torn
it's heavier instrumentally and more varied than this album, but quite a few of the melodies are so bland and generic meathead radio rock

yup i agree it's easily the best album i've ever listened to

pretty stoked that Thrice are making music again, but I'm still a little reserved about this release. hope it delivers though.

the window sounds like another fire ep song, that's what makes me happy the most
|
| |
i actually hear quite a bit of the Fire ep in the instrumentation on the new album, the instrumentation is so damn great. it's the choruses that kill it for me, the chorus to Wake Up is appallingly bad

Did the new album leak? I've decided not to listen to it until my physical copy arrives

Yeah, it leaked. It's alright, hardly anything amazing imo.
|
| |
me listening to the chorus of Wake Up: wow Five Finger Death Punch have really grown as songwriters
seriously, a strong song absolutely murdered by a dreadful chorus. I saw we had the same rating Ash, what's yr favorite song off of it?

probably The Window or Death From Above. I was multitasking so I didn't pay close attention to the lyrics though, so that may change on future listens.
|
| |
tbh I thought the lyrics were bad unfortunately, but maybe you'll feel differently
The Window is probably my 2nd favorite behind Hurricane

Album Rating: 4.0
I'm hoping the album as a whole grows on me like the singles did. It all felt a little samey, which isn't an inherently bad thing as long as the songs all have great individually recognizable hooks
but that wasn't really the case for about half of it either so I dunno
Doesn't surprise me the average rating is so high though - I found it pretty reminiscent of Vheissu and M/M which seemingly everyone here enjoys more than I do.

tbh on the 2nd listen I disliked the new one even more and then on my 3rd listen a few hours later I liked it way more than my first 2 listens so idk there's hope i guess

It's a really solid record but honestly that's it. Hurricane is probably the best song on it along with The Window, Death From Above, Whistleblower, Black Honey and The Long Defeat

Man, all these comments on the new record are bumming me out. I am holding out hope that it'll be AOTY
