well the vocals are usually recorded last, after drums, bass and guitars, so the vocalist can listen to the music and sing/growl/scream over it. and you can do as much takes as you want, so I'm pretty sure he wouldn't just record something he wasn't satisfied with and said "fuck it, let's just leave it there"
