Yeah, the s/t era was definitely the live peak. I never saw them back then, but those live recordings are absolutely legendary, with all members at the peak of their powers. Still, I would definitely shell out cash to see them today

yeah i would say a big part of it is the material they wrote after that took on more of a serious tone, especially the nightmare material which they always play a lot of
also the vibe is just way different when they're playing say, critical acclaim and the revs vocals get played on the pa instead of him actually being there doing it

I only saw them back in the HttK tour with Arin on drums and they put on a hell of a show. Plus the crowd was absolutely wild so there's that. (I still remember how they wrote on Facebook that we were the loudest crowd of the tour so far! haha)
Then I *should* have seen them for The Stage tour but unfortunately there was that accident with a crew member and the show was cancelled the day before. I'm still gutted for not having witnessed that setlist

It's actually weird listening to LIBAD thinking well it's different but at least it's somewhat intricate and then coming back here and realizing City of Evil is pretty much just as intricate if not more and better written in pretty much every way lmao.

They've always been a surprisingly techy band especially for how mainstream they are, which is also why it's hilarious when people lump them with the likes of Disturbed
don't really see this as close to the current line-up quality/prowess tho (ignore current ratings)

Yeah it's just somewhat hidden by their energy and power and some of the singles from S/T.
The Wicked End huge sleeper goated track

Just listened to this again over the weekend and I still stand by my 4.5. Crazy how quickly 72 minutes can zip by

I've been trying to make myself revisit but the hook for beast and the harlot keeps putting me off. It's so corny.

Whats wrong with the hook? I feel like its fine and decently catchy. Lyrics are just biblically fall of Babylon jargon

It's so cheesy and sounds like a Dragonforce hook melody wise. Never mind the jarring tonal shift from the rest of the song being more aggressive and then you've got a hook that's so just. Overly cheery/happy sounding and the major key doesn't really help. I don't like it.

I don't think I've ever seen someone (that likes the album) say Beast has a weak hook before, it's like, absolute cheesefire. And the little "ooooh" to charge it up is so fun haha. I don't think it would work at the same level without the guitar lead underneath though

For me the hook sounds like "Through the Fire and Flames" from Walmart if you will.

Man I've hummed the solo countless times. The way it makes the energy bounce back and continue going right after the chorus is so satisfying.
Beast has always been one of my favs here and I have huge nostalgia for it in particular. Once I was listening to it (not the first time) and the key change in the last chorus suddenly struck me to the point I remember exactly where I was (people, time, everything) and now everytime I hear that part it gives me a weird warm happy feeling like I was still there
