all the 5's in the house, you have 7 days. Name one memorable moment on this album, with a timestamp. I'll wait.

the motherfuckin drop on Phantoms
|
| |
That part in ligature marks where the whole song plays and it’s one of the best tracks they’ve ever released 😂
|
| |
Also for an actual moment: that section in “faultless” where the lyrics go
Of all the wounds I expected
Heartbreak, bereavement and despair
I never saw these coming
The gashes of your betrayal
I freakin looove how the mood changes in that moment, so damn moody

"Name one memorable moment on this album"
The entire first half of Phantoms
The entirety of Broken Cog
Abyssal Eye coming on right after Broken Cog
3:11 and onwards of I Am That Thirst

100% agreed about Ligature Marks, what an absolute monster of a track beginning to end
|
| |
Ligature marks is one of the worst tracks here. Still decent tho

I wouldn't 5 this but the last 2 (or so) minutes of Abysmal eye are an absolute mindfuck.

First thing from Meshuggah that i've genuinely enjoyed since DEI

I thought this was so stellar when it first dropped but I have only revisited this a couple times since then. Something about this is exhausting and not necessarily in a way that is enjoyable to me, even though it is performed at such a high quality by everyone involved.

It's time for them to expand their sound palette.

Broken Cog (3:02) - first riff to break through the pulsating rhythm
The Abysmal Eye (2:12) - that crazy change-up in the pattern
The Abysmal Eye (4:06) - outro riff gets me fist-pumping
Light the Shortening Fuse (2:33) - brief, melodic respite + smooth drum fills
Phantoms (0:00) - greatest Shuggah pattern ever
Phantoms (2:54) - shout-out to their Nothing album
Ligature Marks (0:51) - groovy groove
Ligature Marks (3:50) - grooviest groove
God He Sees In Mirrors (0:00) - mind-fuck pattern that I still can't decipher
God He Sees In Mirrors (1:17) - fun "bouncy" riff
They Move Below (3:13) - slidey swingy riff, followed by a punctuated version of the riff
Kaleidoscope (2:37) - dope riff that gets me shaking my booty
Black Cathedral (1:15) - when the tremolos get deep and dark
I Am That Thrist (0:00) - the brooding riff that breaks the tension from the interlude track
I Am That Thirst (3:12) - switching between the main tempo and triplet insanity for the rest of the track
The Faultless (2:40) - noodly solo juxtaposed by the slow, knuckle-dragging rhythm
Armies of the Preposterous (0:57) - deep, deep machine gun riff
Past Tense (0:00) - no actual moment, but great call-back to C33 album

i'm afraid of a change in sound from this band, it's one of the only metal bands i can enjoy ;-;
|
| |
I love Destroy Erase Improve, Chaosphere, obZen, and Koloss but it really feels like they've taken their current sound as far as it can go. The Violent Sleep of Reason and this one just haven't taken the band anywhere interesting. I also don't like the muddy sound on this compared to the older albums.

nah this is one of their most clearer sounding records

I think the same

Play something from this and then play something from Obzen or Chaosphere.
Edit: Actually, I have the remastered version of Chaosphere so maybe the original is muddy too.
