It works both ways with Tool. They get a lot of unnecessary hate. But at the same time, a lot of die-hard Tool fans get way too involved in idolizing the members and the band as a whole.

it works with all bands, it's just tool's fanbase are insanely diehard and really can't take when someone criticizes tool too well

that's basically what I mean. It seems like the two ends of the spectrum extend out further than most bands' fans/detractors for Tool.

Maynard James Keenan is probably the biggest troll in the universe. Danny Carey is dope though

Yeh, the guitarwork is really cool, although the instrumentation as a whole is pretty much top notch.

No, the guitars are incredibly boring.
Without Carey their albums would be all like 2s

^lol

Without Adam on the guitars this band would probably sound awfully boring and unoriginal

So you think the other members are less original than Adam?

Adam is really a great guitarist, his sound is unique and he writes great melodies. He just is not in the same level as Carey and Chancellor in my opinion. I am a guitarist and after I learned 2 Tool songs on my instrument, I could play them all. He uses suprisingly similar chords and progressions, what makes his sound even more similar and less varied. Hes good, but really not bands driving force.

tool's guitar work is flat, dull and unmemorable

@SaneTBP Well obviously Adam isnt on the same level technique-wise as Danny Carey. This has nothing to do with Adams level of guitar technique at all, its about his ability to create a totally unique atmosphere that fits exceptionally well with Danny's drumwork and Justin's bass. Im not surprised you can learn his chords and play them, but to play them THE WAY he does is a totally different thing.

I agree, he is really great at making ambience. I think hes still a bit overhyped because many people don't reconize that a big part of the melodies are actually played on bass, especially on this album.
