Also, did Hawks survive the hurricane? Why hasn't there been a single "menpest" yet?

anybody else get the feeling of a sort of backward motion from this album?
not just the use of sounds and riffs from past albums, but like there's an intentional reversal of dynamics in how the songs are played? some "castles made of sand" kind of voodoo?
maybe someday it could be used for time travel. or even right now!
also...
inoculate: treat with a vaccine to produce immunity against a disease; vaccinate.
empest: to infect with or as if with a contagion.
there, got rid of that 7;)

Oh wow lmao

Just watched Anthony Fantano's review. For the first time in a long time I 100% agree with every single thought of his in a review. He hit the nail on the head.

Didn't know that meaning of empest. Pretty cool. It should also be noted that Tempest has 7 letters, the song (and a lot of the album) works with time signature numbers that can be divided by 7 or have a 7 in them, and 7empest's catch line "The tempest will be just that" is 7 syllables.

It's where the 13 years went, I guess.

They did write this whole album like 8 years ago. They were just tweaking it and working on other projects the whole time.

The rate and analysis is a direct product of "internet's busiest music nerd".

On first listen I totally agreed with fantano but after I played certain songs a few more times (Culling Voices, Invincible) started to enjoy them more. Idk, it’s pretty good. Imo, the gap tracks aren’t great, the production is very light and thin, and some songs drag. Each one has enjoyable sections but then there are extended jams where I kinda lose touch.

butt.

My main problem is that half the songs here (most of the obnoxiously long ones) spend almost the entire time just slowly building and repeating the same thing over and over again, eventually "climaxing" with a light chugging riff with an odd-time signature. It's very formulaic and predictable. Just about ANYONE could have listened to Tool's discog and then written this album themselves. It is very predictably "tool" in just about every way

Already more than Undertow's and that one's from 2006.

Edit:

"Just about ANYONE could have listened to Tool's discog and then written this album themselves."

I agree that some of this is very formulaic, but come on, that's just plain silly and wrong.
