this could have been a 3 out of 5 at best
straight off, cut the opener - what a stone cold erection killer that is

Yes Boney, their weakest since Sad Songs no matter what.
Even if they reordered the track list, made Hairpin Turns the much better music video version, cut Underwater, Her Father in the Pool, Kansas, The Pull of You, Hey Rosey, and maybe the opener and Roman Holiday even, this is still 4.2/4.3 at most. I'd be fine with that though, not much of a step down from TWFM or SWB for me.
That's still only a little shorter of a run time than Boxer and Alligator, so it's not like they were low on material for this album. Just don't know why they released it the way they did when easy decisions could have made it noticeably better.

What kills the album for me is the stupid interludes

Still think Beast has 5 or 6 tunes better than ANY song on this one
I'd plump for 'Quiet Light' being the best of the bunch on this and...Nobody, System, Guilty, Carin and the T/T off Beast I'd all rate higher, maybe Walk it Back too tbh primarily due to Quiet sounding like such a retread of past glories and at least WIB is something different and pretty successful imo
I'd only switch Quiet Light with Need My Girl or Heavenfaced off Trouble Will Find Me....so the best song on this album would be the 2nd or 3rd worst track on that one. That's not good, esp as TWFM is a 13 song album lol

idk they're like a few mins and they add to the mood nicely
@Talons why on earth would you cut Pull of You that's one of the best

"Pull of You" may be the worst song they've released since 2001

Not sure it even qualifies as a song
Not music I dispute etc
I'd say the opener on this is their worst ever song as it was such a hype killer, an awful way to kick off an album, and is generally just a complete dog's dinner of a composition

pull of you is just poorly executed but like many other songs here could have been a bop
agreed that the opener is straight up hype killer and the worst offender here

I agree the opener is in the wrong spot though

When I saw them they opened with Rylan, I feel like it'd be a great album opener too

I like the opener, reminds me of Radiohead’s “Burn the Witch” in the way it opens the album. Not my favorite way to start an album but it’s an approach that I think can work.

I like “Rylan” as a penultimate song, though having an interlude after it before “Light Years” kind of ruins that.

>idk they're like a few mins and they add to the mood nicely
A few minutes too long and they absolutely kill any flow the album manages to create. They just feel plastered over the whole thing and out of place

Always thought this album was Daytime TV: The Soundtrack and honestly Rylan is the worst offender

People thinking The Pull You Off is one of the best songs on this glorified landfill of an album says a lot about how bad it is.

Daytime TV: The Album (2). Amusing line.
Boney will really go to any length in defending this steaming pile of mediocrity, I’ve never heard anyone mention songs ‘in the context of an album‘ (paraphrasing) as often as he does. The only possible saving manoeuvre here would be to move them off this completely, album ‘flow’ can only do so much when what your working with is sub-standard.

Do not besmirch the bone or I’ll come and find ya but yep album is a turd.

'Always thought this album was Daytime TV: The Soundtrack and honestly Rylan is the worst offender'
Rylan is a bit bland, definitely inferior to 'Carin' off SWB
