Oh yeah, this is definitely aoty for me. Not surprising since it's my favorite band, but this album definitely earned it. The whole album is so amazing that it makes it kinda hard to talk about. I just want everyone to listen to it. Also, Tortoise is the best song on here, what's wrong with you people?

At this point it's honestly absurd how good this band is, year after year, album after album.

I don't have any 5s this year but this is still in the AOTY conversation. but I'm real intrigued to see how Sputnik receives the new Emery, which is also up there for me

I enjoyed new Emery, but I felt it was a little bloated and the lyrics got a little heavy handed at points.

Forgive me, but aren't these guys usually pretty straight up post-hardcore? This sounds like straight up alternative rock to me aside from some screaming

they haven't truly been post-hardcore since brother, sister which was over a decade ago

since then they've gone more in the direction of indie-rock, with an emphasis on their heavier side during pale horses and then especially this release

Upon first listens of each, I think this is much better than new Emery. But then again, Emery is one of my favourite bands so the bias might creep through eventually.

Who the chuff are Emery? Edit: ok the latest album has a naked chick on the cover, so naturally it needs a cursory listen.

I don’t think I’ve listened to Emery since In Shallow Seas. I’m not sure why. It was a great album.

I have this a quick listen the other day. And I mean...it sounds pretty good. But I’m not getting what’s so special/mind blowing about it honestly.

But just one listen isn’t really enough to form an opinion. There are plenty of albums I love that didn’t really hook me until a few listens in. And those end up bring the best ones.

I can tell this is something that may grow on me.
