You can start really anywhere, they have changed quite a bit overtime. Cope is widely regarded as the bands only low point album so I would skip that until you are well acquainted.
I would suggest either Simple Math or Black Mile. Mean Everything and Virgin are a bit more angsty/emo/punky. Their new release is great and is their most polished album yet, but Simple Math and Black Mile are my faves.

Hey, new AFI release set the new bar for poorly executed rollout (7 singles of an 11 track album over a 3+ month period prior to release). Idk if foxing can rob that.

Yeah ... just looked it up:
The first 2 AFI singles dropped on Jan 15th 2021...
They then proceeded to release 5 more singles...
The 11 song album dropped on June 11th 2021.
6 month wait and 7 of 11 songs as singles was a complete hype killer.
