Also I keep getting shook by Love/Paranoia as of recently those last few lines "do you remember the time we were, the time we were by the ocean / I didn't care if it was day or night, the world was right where I wanted / ... girl I'm sorry..."
Like fuck man

It's playful whole album isn't too serious, obviously it ranges but I don't mind.
|
| |
Tbh, I don't mind the song really. I can think of way worse examples.

I guess, the way it just slows down to a ballad when the beginning was really solid still irks me

I like the ballad part and the music behind the Robocop talk and the song isn't too long overall, so I can tolerate it.

Yeah same songwriting technique he uses for Posthumous Forgiveness. Higher energy in the first 2/3rds of the song then suddenly pull the rug from underneath the listener and boom it's a way more stripped down song, you start to hear his lyrics more clearly, then you realize "shit this song is serious isn't it? Did I miss something in the lyrics earlier?
I think it's brilliant even if very simple. It's definitely a cinematic type thing to do within a song but both have such intense feeling associated with them (late father passing / describing the moment a romantic relationship failed)

the subject matter is serious, yet it does kinda come off like Kev got real high in his room one night and took the piss out of the whole situation

yeah story-wise it's obviously serious, past life is just an allusion to a girl he used to see that he ended up repressing his feelings for and that's all now resurfacing
but the mixing of the vocals, the way he tells it, and the brevity of the song makes it much more lighthearted. def as a lil stab at himself (ur a dumb romantic for thinking this is a good idea to call this girl again) so it's definitely purposeful
but yeah just my take on it up to the listener

I just don’t think the robo voice meshes with the song too well. The song itself is great tho, once you finally get to it.
