If he had just replaced the comment about Van Halen's inspiring shredders being vile with "he was an incredible musician who will be missed," there'd be no controversy.

Wilson's a thoughtful guy and obviously an incredible songwriter, but I don't know maybe he needs to get out of his own head a bit cause he says and does stupid stuff sometimes.

That iPod thing from 2008 is still cringy to me. I think pictures from it was in the packaging for the Insurgentes album, according to the Sputnikmusic review for it.
