I have to disagree with you MikeTunney. Anthrax, to me, is the most consistent. They don't have any Loads/St. Anger. No Risk or Th1rt3en or Super Collider. No Diabolus in Musica or God Hates Us All. The worst they have is Stomp 442 and it's still a great album.

Maybe so but Anthrax's mid 90's era is probably the most boring of the big 4.

@willie as far as consistency goes, that may be right. the albums from 95' - 03' are "consistently" mediocre which i guess counts as consistency. stomp 442 is alright though. jams pretty hard at times.

I think he went rehab shortly after the recording sessions of St. Anger began.

@sonoma i do agree with that because megadeth and metallica did take some bold "risks." haha

If we're measuring head-to-head, date-to-date then things will obviously change a little, but just as an overarching body of work, Anthrax is easily the most consistent and has done the least to piss off its fans.

He said it himself that he has gone "straight edge"

The John Bush era was definitely an ill-advised lull, but the albums weren't bad.
--Yah honestly I would've loved to have been alive to see a Metallica 89 tour. The live vids are fucking insane--
That 89' Shit, Binge, Purge Seattle video is freakin' flawless.

"has done the least to piss off its fans"
that being said, the fans have a tendency to get pissed with stupid matters

@willie i didnt mean they were bad. i do have a few jams off of them, but as a whole, i find them mediocre, especially compared to their older works.

--I don't know tbh I always just end up spacing out when I listen to other thrash stuff. Same with basically any extreme metal. But recs are appreciated haha --
No one will probably agree with me, but if you've only heard Megadeth and Metallica, I'd recommend The Ritual by Testament. My personal favorite by them.
--that being said, the fans have a tendency to get pissed with stupid matters--
But Anthrax never reached Lulu/Risk levels.

my first thrash bands besides the big boys were dark angel, sadus and morbid saint
but i realize these are maybe not the best gateway suggestions

@TheMrAlexK that's debatable but understandable. SOWN is a great album and maybe the best transitional album by the big four imo.

They are mediocre compared to their older works, but individually they're not bad at all.
