idk what to think at all. beggars and m/m were both so aggressive and this follows suit. wish to hear something more chill and atmospheric again.

I'm sure there will be some chill to be had even if it is one track. It's not like this is Vhiessu heavy or anything though.

yeah, that's likely. it's more relentless than heavy though. even hold fast hope gave you the 'quite and cold' break

"beggars and m/m were both so aggressive"
wat
Those album were the softest things they had ever made. They had aggressive moments for sure, but they were by no means aggressive records. This new song is a nice return to being slightly heavier and I am unbelievably hyped.

I WAS A CHILD OF HELL
So hyped for the new album. New song was so-so but the teaser they gave us sounded sick.

i'm so excited for the new album, i've needed new thrice

Went back and listened to this in anticipation of the new album. But between the mind numbing boredom of this record and the bland post-grunge style of the single it's hard to get excited.

Read some interviews from the band. Some interesting points:
-Ed actually fired some shots at Dustin in one of them, claiming that he was pushing for a much heavier/shreds return to form but was basically voted down by the rest of the band in favor of more relatable and accessible material. He said the writing process was dominated by Dustin and that his solo records had a big influence on the writing, but he didn't like that his ideas weren't given enough weight and is going to fight for more control over the process in the future. Sounds a lot like the issues Stephen was facing when Deftones wrote their new record
-The band largely wrote most of the album separately and came together in the studio to fine-tune it; it's the first time they've recorded a record like that, and probably the last time
-They're already writing for another record and it's going to be vastly different from this

'-They're already writing for another record and it's going to be vastly different from this'
Is it weird that that will probably change my whole outlook on TBEITBN? Like, if it ends up dominated by political ideas and I end up not caring much for it, at least I know they are already looking to do something different.

Always down for a political album as long as the lyrics/ideas are intelligently conveyed. Two days!!

Yeah, I have some faith that they'll be able to pull it off. It's generally just not my cup of tea.

They've always had political songs on their records. Where Idols Once Stood, Motion Without Meaning, Hoods On Peregrine, Blood Clots and Black Holes, Cold Cash, Don't Tell And We Won't Ask, The Sky Is Falling and Broken Lungs are all overly political or about social issues. Hell, Broken Lungs directly alludes to the 9/11 truth movement.
