perfect example of being verbose while saying absolutely nothing

That’s kind of the point for me, though. All of the act and drama is meaningless whether it actually means anything or not

“every single facet of it just reeks of brittle white bread open mic pseudo-hillbilly concerted love-me-(puppy-eyes)-shitvoice naffness so rancidly that I don't think I'll ever come close to needing a rational pretext to hate it.”
would like to see a stab at translating this into an actual tangible criticism of some kind cause right now it's just an overly long rym comment with way too many adjectives

Here's the translation (though I don't agree ofc):
"The whole album has the pretentious facade of being 'down-to-earth' and pseudo-humble, pandering to the indie blogosphere so much that I don't feel the need to explain why the album is bad"
Idk, that's what I gleaned from it
And it's worth noting that this isn't the only place I've seen that criticism of the album

^
That’s what I took from it too
I just wanna praise Satan, dance, or get emotional
Maybe all 3 sometimes

would make no sense for an album so bold and reflective of obvious musical skill to be “pseudo-humble” and it’s impossible for anything this unique to be “pandering.” pretty sure from the use of “white bread hillbilly” that he is trying to say when he hears folk music in its purest form it serves as a cruel reminder of the fact that he will always be a white dude and not an anime character and passes it off as disdain for the whimsical yet somber cogitation of kristian as he travels along the dalarna wilderness. you will never be able to date a persona 5 character johnny, they’re not real. this album offers you something real, but you need to get over yourself to recognize it

You can't make a comment like this NOT expecting to be clowned on

I'm always amazed people find this sincere, it's like the textbook example of trying to pass off affectation as feeling. If I was to make as bold a statement as the above one about mumford, I'd go for the lumineers, at least the vocals don't make me want roll around laughing

ok i've erased richard and linda thompson's bright lights, obviously couldn't hold a candle to some guy writing a bunch of earnest power words in some semblance of order

"This is the worst kind of bad album in that it's not remotely short of talent - songwriting and musicianship are clearly there - but every single facet of it just reeks of brittle white bread open mic pseudo-hillbilly concerted love-me-(puppy-eyes)-shitvoice naffness so rancidly that I don't think I'll ever come close to needing a rational pretext to hate it."
Because, as you said, he's a great musician and songwriter. Whatever he looks like or where he comes from doesn't really matter to me as much as his talent as an artist.

i'd just like to say i don't care what he looks like, but i don't think he communicates anything very well and thus i don't find him a very talented artist. the choices he makes around how he chooses to express himself are off-putting to me.

Burden of Tomorrow is such a good melody

@Fogza A friend of mine shared a similar sentiment. They found his lyrics to be too metaphorical and abstract to make a meaningful connection with it. I guess that's what you mean?
For me, I think he is a good wordsmith and crafts some seriously great imagery. It's open enough to interpretation too, so I can project my own meaning onto the words.

"They found his lyrics to be too metaphorical and abstract "
i think that's being kind. i think he's got lots of verses which have a totally duff non sequitur line that just fills space.
