@Talons the 20th century is easily the best period for classical music dude. Sounds like your teacher just doesn't like a lot of it and therefore didn't bother to cover it.
I can give you recs if want!

I had no idea what the teacher liked or preferred, we were pretty all over the place and it was a while ago so I don't remember it too well.
If you really think you know of ones that are better than classics like Beethoven and Mozart, then sure I'd be curious to learn what those are.

All a matter of personal taste of course but the only reason Beethoven and Mozart are put on a pedestal is because they're older. It's like us with the Beatles and Pink Floyd.
Check these:
Copland - Appalachian Spring
Messiaen - Vingt regards sur l'enfant-jésus, Quartet for the End of Time
Schoenberg - Verklarte Nacht, Chamber Symphony op. 9, 5 Pieces for Orchestra op. 16, 3 Piano Pieces op. 11, Variations for Orchestra op. 31, Erwartung, Pierrot Lunaire
Boulez - Le marteau sans maitre
Webern - Symphony, Piano Variations, String Quartets
Shostakovich - Symphonies 5, 6, 7, 10, 15, Preludes and Fugues
Prokofiev - Piano Concerto 2, Piano Sonatas 7, 8, 9
Bartok - Concerto for Orchestra, Piano Concerto 3, Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta
Just to name a few.

Thanks for the recs, I've heard of some of those composers but not really aware of classical music made after The Rite of Spring was released; I'm definitely a "Beatles and Pink Floyd" fan in that sense, so I'll check those out.

Original or re-master guys, do you have a preference? Same for Deliverance.
|
| |
For anything metal, I almost always go for the original. I hardly bother to even test the remasters.

bloc knows for sure, agreed hard. Usually metal remaster/remixes aren't worth the time and money. There are only very few exceptions...

Yeah, but this album isn't even metal. And some people really like Deliverance's re-master. Plus they were initially intended to be released as one double-album & the label didn't want that, or something...

When Steven Wilson is involved it usually is an exception, which doesn't mean the original isn't great already. Wilson is a true master at remixing and remastering.

For the most part, Steven Wilson is great at remixing albums...only that he DID NOT remix Deliverance on the recent 5.1 re-release. Bruce Soord remixed Deliverance. As for Damnation, SW did remix it but personally, I can hardly hear any difference between the two versions.
