I can see where Piglet is coming from. This album was really created off vibes rather than demonstrating a certain level of musicianship. And that's fine by me. Also, the only way Chino can sound palatable on a track is by using a heavy amount of effect work. I encourage anyone to go listen to "Error" and listen to him without heavy vocal effects. It's just shot. So I think this album is them having to purpose-build around that reality.

I love Error but I don’t think you’re wrong.
This album is a vibe and if you’re not on that wavelength then I get it but I love this thing. Top 5 tones for sure

3. White Pony
2. Saturday Night Wrist
1. Koi No Yokan
Honestly if Gore sounded like Ohms or even this (production wise) it would probably crack my top 5. Acid Hologram, Geometric Headdress, Hearts / Wires, Phantom Bride, Rubicon are all timers for me. Chino’s screams on that record have some kind of weird vocal effect that just make them sound like nails on a chalkboard, and not in a good way, and the guitars overpower everything else in the mix.

And yeah, the man is 50 and has not taken care of himself well over the years… anyone expecting him to throw down like he could 25 years ago is out of their fkn mind.

Gore has so many bops it's crazy. Rubicon is an absurdly good closer.

Pittura Infamante and Xenon are kinda whack but the rest of the record is crazy good, it’s just held back by dogshit production. I really don’t know what they were thinking, obviously they knew it sounded like trash considering they immediately went back to Terry and now Nick.
The dream would be a Terry Date remix but that’ll never happen. It’s truly the red headed step child of their discography.

Yeah, I've never understood the hate people have for Gore.

I really think it’s just the production. Songwriting across the board is good, performances aren’t much worse than Koi or Diamond Eyes… it just doesn’t sound pleasant to listen to at times

I think Ohms is superior to this in every way.

Ohms is definitely an album where the band is pushing the riffs and the heaviness. In that vein it is very much vintage Deftones. So it's understandable that Ohms fans would be put off with this album since it isn't trying to push any sort of envelope (something I mentioned in my review). Definitely a divisive album depending on what your take on Ohms is.
Personally I think Ohms has enough outright bad songs that I can't put it above much else in their discography. To me it's nearer to the bottom, but that doesn't necessarily mean poor quality. Just poor relative to what the band has been able to do before.
