Hype youre maybe the biggest sheep on this site these days, which is saying a fucking lot lol . Like I legit can’t think of another user who comes into as many threads as you just to say “wow guys, x is rly dumb” without anything to actually say. Just like back in the day when you reviewed, you had nothing to say, just parroting what other more intelligent people were saying.

chill out on the people who say they don’t care too. This is very much a “you like it or hate it” situation and if you put the popcorn down for a second it’s pretty easy to see how this whole ordeal comes off as fucking obnoxious. I am envious of their lack of care

It’s okay to see it as the biggest event in hip hop this decade, but it’s also okay to view it as two very angry people calling each other names AKA what happens on Sputnik daily

Odal: I think that’s kind of the problem with these things. Like you can’t even discuss it or point out the double standards without people going on a witch hunt. So many discussions just outright shut down

because gyro you have to understand man that those of us who spend time using our brains to produce critical thoughts figured out a long time ago that you can’t reason people out of arguments they didn’t reason themselves into. arguing with basically 99% of your opinions is about as fruitful as trying to teach physics to a brick. so we just call you dumb and ignore the rest. it’s the most effective strategy and it always works.

You just double down on your dollar store insults eh? Like you’re just legit unable to engage in a discussion about any of this shit. You know why? Because you don’t actually have any opinions of your own. You’re such a critical thinker that you get triggered by someone pointing out how contradictory language can be.

Language is fluid and evolves, that's for sure.

I don't think I'm comfortable enough with the f-slur and the r-slur to drop them on the internet for anyone to see, but it's also a bit dismissive and reactionary to not pretend that there is increased acceptance of these words divorced from discriminatory intent. My biggest issue with them is that while more and more people are using these terms without hateful intent, I still think their culture is in a place where I feel a bit uneasy at first blush when I see them. I frankly don't know someone's intent when I read them on the internet, and nobody is gonna put a little addendum every time that says "don't worry, I'm actually based and not hateful." There's definitely a conversation to be had about that, although I'm unsure if a music website is the battleground I'd choose lol I don't think these two specific words are anywhere close to the complexities of the n-word. Even this whole angle of conversation is largely different from why I was arguing that it was totally okay for Kendrick to say the f-slur in "Auntie Diaries" because that involves artistic merit. It's complex stuff, and I'm just not really willing to die on the hill

the r-slur is just completely unacceptable. i get that in a different time, that type of thing was okay but there’s 0 excuse to call someone a r*pscallion in 2024.

Thanks for actually having a brain and engaging in the discussion in a civil manner, Odal. I know it’s really hard for some people to discuss these things without calling someone a retar- sorry, I mean idiot, which is a totally different word that has nothing in common and isn’t hateful. And yeah, I do agree it’s a complex topic with a lot of things to consider, and artistic merit is certainly one of those things but it also seems like a form of gatekeeping. Context should be the only thing that matters, I think. Are you calling a homosexual the f word? You’re probably a pos then, are you saying it out of frustration and it has nothing to do with sexuality? Prob environmental conditioning (like, hearing it a lot in your youth and falling back on it like “fuck” or “bitch” to expel anger). We probably should cut back on using these words, but the double standards still exist regardless

Colton - totally agree. It’s never been okay to say in the first place tho. The context has always been to discriminate against black people
