wishing a band would go back to their sound 13 years ago when a vital songwriting member of that group is no longer in the band (and hasn't been for roughly 12 or whatever years) is a lost cause man lol [2]
id still feel like it were a lost cause if i were asking for Acceptance Speech vibes at this point lol but that's not necessarily impossible.

I haven’t listened to half of the non Tilian DGD because anytime I venture into that territory I listen to Uneasy Hearts Weigh the Most and then assume there can’t possibly be a better non Tilian dgd song than that one.

it's actually the song(s?) before it, Hot Water On Wool tbh.

eh, I just feel like they have been coasting on auto-pilot on everything post Mothership. There's still some tracks I enjoy on ArtSel and AB, but every album prior I thought was significantly better and would listen front to back. This new single feels like the trends gunna continue for me.
Feel like their sound has kinda stagnated since Mothership which may or may not have something to do with Mothership being the first release they ever had a fully stable lineup for over 2 years ...

Also my gf informed me yesterday that her favorite member of DGD is Mattias Adolfsson (album artist) and although I would disagree and say Mess or Swan, I am not disappointed in that pick.

i'm a fan of Synergy (best first single we've gotten since Chucky!!!!) but yeah def in the same boat. they're still making objectively solid music but it's been pretty void of that magic the first Tilly trio had.

Tilian peaked on Instant Gratification.

Someone who listened to Sputnik in the 2000s and early 2010s when the consensus was dgd was a joke band who didn’t make serious music so I didn’t check until after mothership came out.

isn't the consensus that they've been making joke music since tillian joined?
pretty sure their debut used to sit at a 4.1 avg at one point

Even when they had a high average the conversation steered towards jokey. They definitely are taken more serious on Sputnik these years. Tho humorously(?) it still leads to just as much criticism.

"Can we at least go back to IG tier"

an appropriate answer to that take would be: ""nahh, mothership exists but i see where you're coming from!" definitely not "hell nah" and most fucking certainly not "hell nah lol"
