Again, if someone takes their time to write out a comprehensive reply in reaction to my comments, it seems respectable to respond in the manner that I did. I adore discussion like this.

I wish I could agree, but I really miss the dissonance/abrasive nature of Shrines. It's a lot more unpredictable in its structuring whereas this relies moreso on linearity, with melodies being the main attraction. (Obviously not saying this is totally linear/lacking in complexity)

By Ulcerate standards, this is pretty accessible. Doesn't have the same bite as prior albums though.

I agree with MarsKid, Shrines is best Ulcerate.

I don't know about best, but best Ulcerate isn't really an agreeable concept in general.

I suppose that is true, although I think it is music and production wise the most impressive iteration of their harsh and abrasive style, although I'm sure some would contend EiF takes that cake.

They never really did dissonance as well as on EiF again. Destroyers was cool for the post influence and Shrines was cool because it’s heavy af and well executed but it was hinting at this change at times with some of its grooves and more atmospheric moments. I think they’d explored the dissonant side of their sound as much as they could for now, and the melodic style change was due. It would have felt like a songwriting rut if they kept going down the path of the previous four albums

I also disagree that this is that much more predictable or linear than their other post EiF work.

I'm not happy with how Vermis is getting disrespected around here. Its Ulcerate at their darkest and most oppressive imo.

Nah, second to worst Ulcerate record, although it's still great. Shrines takes that cake.

It's got a nice average, wouldn't consider it disrespected.

And I naturally meant linar in the context of Ulcerate. Wasn't as chaotic as Shrines felt to me, if that makes sense.
