Did Gyro go from a 4.5 to a 2.0 in a short period of time? Bizarre. One might assume he's trolling.

I was going to double-check the comments for certainty, but unfortunately I've filled up the pages with so much twaddle, it's a chore to go through it all. I'm sure at one point he was enjoying it.

CoL, Isis and neurosis are too much post-metal, wish they were more diverse. Their albums, for me, always have the same pattern: 2-3 wow songs and boredom.
It's a shame.

Can something be 'too much post-metal'? Lol.
I think want you're looking for is prog qwenta my son, which is probably why you prefer The Ocean as they lean more in that direction whilst retaining many of the elements of post-metal. (Please can we not debate the post is prog thing again, yeah I'm looking at you Relinquished - I understand the argument).

The real question is, can something be too much prog? I believe the answer is yes.

So too much post-metal is not enough wanking, but too much prog is too much wanking?

I hate prog for the same reason. Prefer mixed genres.

Inland Rain is just a bloody masterpiece.. such a monster of a song. That sudden explosion at 3:15, holy shit.
Awesomeness of this record isn't hidden in the originality and performance of individual instruments (drums stand out the most, maybe), it's much more in the way all these parts are glued together and how it all unites in the one massive wall of sound. I don't know a band that would compose long tracks with such a precision and yet as simple and legible as CoL.
Same goes for Lights on the Hill, most of it is just one ordinary chord progression, but the way the melodies emerge and complement each other and how all the little changes in all of the instruments carry it to the massive finale... breathtaking.

'apparently not'
There's a difference between prog as a defined style and one that means truly 'progressive' by nature. Many people use the term prog to describe the former and therefore it is now an acceptable term, even if much of the music it is used to describe is actually a creatively barren and derivative wasteland (and therefore the opposite of what it means in the literal sense). Ignoring the fact two interpretations exist is simply inaccurate.
