not really afaik, people were just underwhelmed because they expected this to be the best thing ever, like a jane doe 2.0, which it is not

I wasn’t expecting Jane 2.0, AWLWLB 2.0 would’ve been nice (& more realistic) though.

you live long enough and you see that bands past their prime are eventually gonna give something less than par, even if they're still artistically sound after decades.

Fine ass woman, never seen her act or whatever before. And a decent movie to boot

The album was hyped as fuck. I know my hype level was through the roof and I thought they'd be AOTY for sure just based off of Pain and Eve.

I'm thinking that's what did the album in for everyone.
Eve would've been the best track on the album.

My hype level absolutely did me in. I thought this was going to be like YFM with some new tricks added on and I absolutely loved Pain, Eve and Under Duress. Sadly, this is like 3.2 territory for me but I rounded up because I really love some of the tracks.

hmm ok i didn't listen to pain/eve before so i came in expecting this to be disappointing based on the comments i read here but idk i loved their last one more than most i guess so i guess i really am special you were right mom

I was underwhelmed by all those tracks in isolation anyway, still had reasonable expectations mind.

I think most of the tracks individually are really strong it's just that the album as a whole is paced so weirdly. Like, the title track comes in way too early, and coming off the heels of Pain just grinds the record to a halt. That, and reptilian is just not a good closer. Idk I feel like the tracks just don't flow as well as converge albums usually do. Which sucks, because I think A Single Tear, I Can Tell You About Pain, Wildlife, Arkhipov Calm, and Thousands of Miles Between Us are up there with some of their best songs.
