What the hell, that obZen comment is fucking absurd. That is the height of their lyricism, heaviness, and complexity. One of the most intense and interesting albums of all time imo

DEI is great, but the thrashy elements and wankery solos make it a bit more straight forward and less of its own genre like stuff like Nothing and obZen.

I understand why someone wouldn’t “get” them, though. As obsessed with them as I am, I’ve come to terms with them being really fucking hard to get into - they’re pretty niche and being atonal doesn’t really help their accessibility. But personally, I don’t connect with any other band more intimately.

Being atonal isn't the problem though. Neither is "being hard to get into." In my opinion, it's just being dull as hell, as well as using weird rhythms as an excuse and a crutch for shitty songwriting. Just my take, though. And as I said, that's pretty much my take on a huge amount of this whole djent subgenre in general.

I suppose I prefer a bit more variance in my prog metal than some knuckleheads playing the same one-note riff for five minutes straight

There’s a meme about the point being nowhere near your head and it would be perfect for this occasion

I'm late as fuck, but yeah. It's a one for me because it was legitimately painful for me to listen to, and I didn't enjoy it one bit. Like I said, I understand the appeal, but I feel that it has absolutely nothing to offer for me. Additionally, I don't think that warrants you to say I'm the worst new user, just because I have a hot take. That's a bit absurd.
