uh yeah it does. brand new is so ridiculously influential in pop punk and pop punk and alt rock
associated genres, that they (along with a new found community appreciation of 90s rock) inspired a
whole new trend in pop punk by themselves - so called 'indie punk.'
this trend is responsible for numerous, numerous bands switching from pop punk and into 'indie punk.'
it is characterized by rougher production, lower/less whiny vocals, heavy focus on dynamics and
introspective lyrics, the incorporation of grunge and emo.

you can't deny it, lakes.

i think pinkerton was more influential in that regard than any brand new album.
|
| |
Album Rating: 3.5
yeah, because it's more than 10 years older than it, lakes. not a fair comparison.
|
| |

the genesis of that sound is in pinkerton though. brand new didn't invent anything.
|
| |
Album Rating: 3.5
that doesn't change the fact that it's influential or not.
blink-182 is wildly influential, but they didn't invent anything new or interesting from pop punk. and when they actually did do something different (s/t), no one followed their lead.

on absolutepunk, we have drinking games regarding every time a new band introduces themselves, and states that they are similar to/influenced by brand new.

makes sense

lol yeah, i'm not active on absolutepunk but i lurk around, comments about brand new are literally everywhere
it's literally a brand new wanking site disguised as a general punk site, it really is

Well, to be fair, sputnik can be a bit of a Brand New wank site at times

so sick of brand new
|
| |
Album Rating: 3.5
it's literally a brand new wanking site disguised as a general punk site, it really is
it's funny, because every other thread/review of a pop or hip-hop or (much more rare ofc)
metal album, has people going "absolutepunk." or simply stating that this is supposed to be a
"punk" site and not all dat other shiz.
also, one of the first comments of quite a few major albums have people saying "oh, this album is this
band's daisy or devil and god!"
|
| |
Album Rating: 3.5
it's also a blink-182 wank site, but then, the site was originally a blink-182 fan site so ofc .
people got so upset when someone posted a 58% review for neighborhoods, and for stupid reasons too.
