MoP has fancier songwriting and is more "epic", but RTL is much more to the point, so it's basically just up to which style one likes more imo.

ehhh I don't know, trapped under ice always felt somewhat out of place after the first four tracks set the tone. didn't feel dark enough.

thrash won me over back in 2006, these days I actually listen to other genres, and tbh I was happier back then lol

I was just listening to a Youtube video focused on James' voice change throughout their career. Their sound was at its peak while touring for this album. Just full on anger, and his voice was the best it ever sounded.

well, with all the troubles the band went through at the time, you can't blame him

I think Jame's vocals peaked in the early 90's, while the band toured to support their s/t.

89 wasn't just the best for James, it was the best time for the band. They were the tightest they ever were... and Jason Newstead gives them an edge that they honestly didn't have before or after (no disrespect to Cliff Burton). They were on fire. Faster, heavier and more aggressive than any other time.

@Rowhaus Anthrax is perhaps the weak link of the big four, and they have proven the most inconsistent to me, but they still have some kickass albums. ATL and STD rank high among the best thrash, and they are the quintessential party thrash records. Fuck glam metal or any poser party shit.

@ALA "Escape" probably is the worst song on RTL, but it is a fun little song. I spin it just as much as everything else on the album.
